ABS or not ? Traction control or not ?
ABS? No ABS? Traction control? No traction control? It's a real debate that stirs simracers, even today. Many say that using these aids, even at low levels, is not realistic.
Very good. But two details lead me to think that a rookie can use both aids:
- Firstly, I heard Christophe Hamon, driver of the Sebastien Loeb Racing in the championship of France FFSA GT, there a few days, while commenting a GT Tour race, that GT had today ABS and traction control, and this was appreciated by the pilots,
- Secondly, I believe it is necessary that each simracer, each virtual pilot knows what level he wants to achieve with the means at its disposal. If you have the latest equipment, you have time to improve yourself, unplug the aid. If you are an average driver, who has neither the time nor the money to work his touch of the accelerator and the brake, you must not hesitate to use them.
For my part, I have striven for years, I mean years, to drive without ABS or traction control, except in Formula 1. I showed a lot of patience, when I began races at the last place, when I could not master a new car... to get to the point where I found myself disgusted simracing.
This disgust phase allowed me to think about what I expected of simracing. No, I do not want to have fun on car arcade games. I want to have the feeling of driving a racing car but I also want to get some satisfaction, a pleasure.
So I decided to reactivate ABS and traction control to the lowest level. And since then, I found the pleasure to race.
The Rookie
