Temperature of the tires...

Réglage de la température des pneus sur le circuit de Spa-Francorchamps

The big question of the temperature of the tires, and also one of the most demanding works in simracing and real auto race...

It depends on many factors :

- The temperature of the track and its evolution,
- The tire pressure,
- The setup of the car (balance of brakes, camber settings, dampers, anti-roll bars...)
- The driving style...

Recently, I took more than ever aware of the importance of good management of the temperature of the tires: it is one of the keys to victory.

On the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Viper GT, I have taken longer than usual to find the right temperature across the width of the tire. We know that between the inside and outside thereof, the temperature should not vary by more than 5°C. Moreover, intermediate data must be between the two extremes. In short, if:

- Outside temperature: 80°C,
- Inside temperature: 85°C,

the temperature measured in the middle of the tire must be between these two values.

I spent a lot of time playing with the pressure and camber to stabilize these data and especially in order to the middle of the tire to be never as hot as inside or outside.

And it paid off. I almost won a second a lap. Huge !!!
