NTFrance, a french association of virtual motorsport, organized recently a Project Cars race on the Road America track. This event was opened to every simracer, including those who are not enrolled in the association. One of my acquaintances has also participated.
32 places were available for 16 LPM2 and 16 GT3, for an event of 46 laps with a scheduled departure at 14h. Ideal on the paper, more complicated in reality, because the drivers have to face in hellish conditions. Over half of the race took place in a fog to cut with knife. Hard to find the marks determined during preliminary tests.
One participant, Dread262, had the intelligence to record the whole session and to deliver it via Youtube. I obviously don't have missed the opportunity to watch from beginning to
end, in order to learn as much as possible about the online races.
Here's what I get out.
What's positive :
- All levels are welcome and beginners are very welcome,
- The atmosphere of the event is friendly: the simracers
respect globally well the rules and overtakings are not forced, except accidents,
- Pilot discuss via Teamspeak,
- NTFrance server is fairly stable, no lag, or worse, cut, allowing fine clashes,
- You have to work your consistency and do not hesitate to let passing the LMP2 when you are in GT3,
- The tire warm-up time is very interesting in Project Cars. It seems to be very realistic, since it takes several laps in order the tires to rise in temperature.
What's negative :
- Many dropouts are to be deplored, probably because of climatic conditions,
- I've never seen a real race with such conditions. Under pouring rain, yes, but not in such a fog. It makes you wonder if the rules of the game are well done,
- The grip on grass is especially good, which should not be the case. Any excursion into the grass should result in a spin.
Come now to your own opinion.
