A recent disastrous experience during a race (40 laps at Orschersleben with a Porsche 911 Biturbo) convinced me to make some rules to follow in order to never experience such a disaster !
Here are the rules of the Simracer, from the Rookie.
BEFORE THE TEST
For the driver :
- Working endurance and concentration
- Never running during the week, but for the weekends
- Resting before the test
The setup :
- Not reducing the steering angle in order to get a margin in the rotation of the steering wheel when the front tires are worn
- Well setting tires (primarily) and adapting their pressure at air temperature
- Rechecking the amount of fuel carried in order to cover the required distance
The way of driving :
- Studying your best lap in order to reproduce exactly during the race if possible
- Identifying and knowing perfectly the input and output speeds at turns
- The points of braking and acceleration must become instinctive
- Identifying places where you can overtake and so do not improvise during the race
DURING THE TEST
At the start :
- Be careful about the acceleration before starting, neither too little nor too
- If you have hard tires, wait three turns before attacking
At turns :
- Do not try to correct your trajectory during the turn
- Do always pay attention to the apex
- Optimize output
During the race :
- Reproduce exactly your best lap (input and output speeds if possible, braking and acceleration points, trajectories)
- Do not drive too fast throughout the race. It is very easy to go fast during four or five laps : over forty laps, it only serves to get tired and make mistakes
- Be careful throughout the race to adapt yourself to changes on the car and of the grip of the track
The car :
- Never exceed the breaker during the acceleration
- Avoid at all costs the exits : they damage the tires and reduce their lifespan
- Be careful when you go back on the track after exit
- Do check the Motec only during the straight line
The battles :
- Do not try to overtake in the early laps - the tires and brakes are cold : braking distances are longer!
- Never look at the car in front of you but the trajectory
- Keep a safe distance especially when you are about to do a turn
- Do not block an opponent which wants to overtake you : this may cause an accident and ruin your chances to finish the race
This checklist may change of course, depending on experience.
